It’s time you got out of your own way!

We are our best allies and worst enemies. This thought occurred to me somewhere between my Sumo walk and slide exercises at Fit Camp (TM Self-Time Fitness) class this morning. I wanted to blame this weekend’s fried chicken from Flora and Ella’s for weighing me down, but the real answer is it has been fear weighing me down for quite some time.

You can be your best ally!

Fear of what it would take to get back in shape has kept me out of the gym. Fear of not being able to support my two children fueled my penchant for long hours, little sleep and calorie-rich food. Fear of failing in business drove me to cut down on my networking events—and trust me (and author Tom Peters), “You can’t shrink your way to greatness!”

So what, does all this have to do with Internet Marketing and Social Media?

There is plenty of information available on the benefits of Internet Marketing and Social Media: in the press, on the net—everywhere. So, we can’t use lack of information as an excuse anymore than we can use lack of health information as an excuse for being overweight and out of shape.

So, why is it that we reach for the brownie or cigarette instead of the yogurt with fruit? Why is it that businesses continue to pour hundreds and thousands (and more) into print advertising campaigns that have a low return on investment when Internet Marketing and Social Media campaigns are a fraction of the cost and yield a much higher return?? Fear-of-change. It’s that simple, and potentially deadly to both body and business.

Don’t let fear of change stop you or your business from becoming the best and highest good possible. Do something—anything—today that takes you out of your comfort zone: Add 20 people on facebook, write a blog, have an extra glass of milk, skip dessert, call someone and apologize. Whatever you do, make it count and get in the habit of doing something every day that moves you forward and towards your dreams.
